His writing often centres on illustration and its histories, spanning books, essays, and educational materials. He is the author of
The Bird,
which celebrates the golden age of avian illustration, and the founder of
Illustration Chronicles,
which explores the history of illustration through a growing series of essays.
He leads the BA Illustration programme at Ireland's
National College of Art & Design,
where he supports students in developing distinct and critically engaged creative practices. His teaching is informed by a broad professional background and a deep interest in narrative, visual culture, and the evolving role of illustration.
Alongside writing and teaching, he maintains a
studio practice
that spans image-making, practice-led research, and cultural collaboration. He established his studio in 2008 and continues to work across disciplines and formats.
